AHS basketball gets two All-State, three All-Conference nods

It's been since '05 that both the Anaconda High School boys' and girls' basketball teams played at state, so it's only fitting that five Copperheads and Lady Copperheads were named to the All-State and All-Conference teams in the aftermath of this year's Montana Class B State Basketball Tournament.
Making All-State for Anaconda are two names we've been seeing all year atop the box scores – River Hurley and Meela Mitchell.
Hurley had perhaps his finest game as a Copperhead in his finale, a one-point loss to Lodge Grass where he scored 26 points – including the presumptive tying buzzer-beater three-pointer at the end of regulation that was waved off as a long two. He also racked up 25 points in Anaconda's OT win over Red Lodge to open the tourney.
Mitchell, a junior, excelled all year with numerous 20-plus point performances, adding two more at state – 25 and 27 in wins over Chinook and Malta, respectively. No doubt she'll continue to pile them up as a senior.
Speaking of seniors, all of Anaconda's All-Conference selections are in the Class of 2024. Cael Mikalatos earned Second-Team All-Conference as a key contributor for the Copperheads' run at state. For the Lady Copperheads, Makena Patrick – she of the 1,000-point club – made First-Team All-Conference, and Maniyah Lunceford, who had a huge state tourney avering 15 points per game, made Second-Team All-Conference.
