McKay wins by six strokes; Sayers takes sixth, Saltenberger ties for seventh place

Spring sports is underway, and the Lady Copperhead varsity golf team already has their first victory of the year under their belts, with the team taking first place at their season opener, the Florence-Darby Invitational at the Hamilton Golf Club on Tuesday, March 31.

The Lady Copperheads won by 11 strokes over second-place Florence-Carlton, +101 to +112. And not only did Anaconda take first, but so did one of its core members, as Logan McKay won the girls' tournament with a 9-over score of 81 – six strokes ahead of Kipley Solari of Florence-Carlton (+15, 87).

McKay shot a +7 43 on the front 9 and a near-even par +2 score of 38 on the back nine – including back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 – on her way to first place.

McKay wasn't the only Lady Copperhead to medal, either, as Lylee Sayers placed sixth with her 28-over score of 100, and right behind her was Quincy Saltenberger in a tie for seventh place with her +29 score of 101.

Iliana Cline finished in the top 20 with a 35-over score of 107, and Grace Galle was in the top 25 with her +42 score of 114 to finish in a tie for 24th.

No boys' results were posted for Anaconda at the Florence-Darby Invitational.

AHS Golf will be off next week, but they'll be back in action on Monday, April 13 at Green Meadow Country Club in Helena for a meet hosted by Jefferson County High School.

Editor's note: this article has been updated to indicate the amount by which the Anaconda team won the event over the second-place team, and their respective final scores, as well as to correct information in the cutline.
