Angela Jean Gates, lovingly known as “Ann Jean,” passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on February 8, 1956, in Anaconda, Montana, to June and Ted Bjornemo, Ann Jean lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, and devotion to her family and friends.

She grew up in Anaconda, with a brief time spent in Washington during her childhood, and proudly graduated from Anaconda Senior High School in 1975. In 1978, she married the love of her life, Tom Gates, in Anaconda, Montana. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with gratitude, love, and the joy of raising their four children: Jennifer, Brenda, David, and Tommy.

Ann Jean dedicated herself fully to her family, later becoming the beloved “Grandma Jean” to ten grandchildren: Camryn, Eli, Jed, Allison, Danilynn, Kaylee, Lainey, Maryn, Hayden, and Warren. Her family was her heart and her legacy.

She was well-known as the “best Avon Lady in Anaconda,” a title she claimed proudly. Her enthusiasm and success earned her recognition and trips she cherished, often shared with her daughters. But beyond Avon, she was a listener, a giver, and a friend to all.

A creative spirit, Ann Jean had a passion for crafting. Her Cricut machine was her magic wand, transforming simple materials into heartfelt gifts—mugs, shirts, coasters, and more—that now serve as cherished reminders of her thoughtfulness. She also loved her walks in Washoe Park, where she found peace and joy in the beauty around her.

A devoted Catholic, Ann Jean’s faith was steadfast. She held a deep devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her spiritual strength was a quiet foundation in her life.

Ann Jean is survived by her loving husband Tom, her four children, and all of her grandchildren. She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, June and Ted Bjornemo, along with many beloved extended family members and dear friends.

A celebration of Ann Jean’s life will be held at Anaconda Catholic Community Church on May 31 at 10:30 a.m. The gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m.  A reception will follow in the community room of the church. Her family warmly welcomes all extended family and friends to stay, share stories, and celebrate her remarkable life.  Ann Jean was a true fan of all things St. Patrick’s Day, she knew how to make the holiday sparkle. But it wasn’t just the luck of the Irish that made her smile; she was also an Avon enthusiast who believed that a little bit of pink could brighten anyone’s day. In honor of her joyful spirit, we invite you to celebrate her life by wearing something pink or green—because Ann Jean would have insisted that both are the perfect colors for a day of memories.

Her light, love, smile, and laughter will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
