April Anne (Carroll) Pentilla
April Anne (Carroll) Pentilla died Feb. 8, 2024 at the Community Hospital of Anaconda from complications resulting from COVID-related pneumonia. April passed away in the afternoon, surrounded by loving family members. She was 75.
April was born Sept. 9, 1948 in Helena to Robert S. and Dorothy (Jessen) Carroll and was the granddaughter of Peter and Annie (Jones) Jessen of Anaconda.
April lived in Boulder for the first six years of her life. The family later moved to Anaconda into the home of her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Jones. Shortly thereafter, April’s parents divorced, and at the age of 12 she was tasked with babysitting her two younger siblings.
April grew up in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda Senior High School in 1966. She later attended the University of Montana, graduating in 1970 with a degree in education with high honors. She went on to teach in Deer Lodge and later at North Mor Elementary School in Northglenn, Colorado.
April married Michael Arthur Pentilla of Butte June 24, 1972. The two met while taking classes at Montana Tech. April and her husband later moved to Colorado, where the two welcomed daughter Anne “Annie” Elizabeth Pentilla into the world Sept. 11, 1982. The couple raised their daughter in Westminster, Colorado, where they resided for more than 30 years before returning to Anaconda.
All who knew April describe her as an adventurous spirit. In her younger years, April loved riding her horse Pablo, which she did masterfully, and some of her most memorable experiences include whitewater rafting the Grand Canyon and traversing the MacMillan and Yukon rivers with her husband and friends during a 400-mile canoe trip. In recent years, April loved to entertain and planned every detail, and an invite to the Pentilla household was coveted by all.
April is preceded in death by her father and mother Robert and Dorothy Carroll, her grandparents Peter and Annie Jessen, and her in-laws Ann (Skolls) and Arthur Pentilla of Butte. She is survived by her husband Mike Pentilla; her daughter Anne Pentilla and son-in-law Matthew Goodwin of Bozeman; her brother Robert and sister-in-law Susan Carroll, along with their children Allison and Mitchell Carroll and daughter-in-law Lindsey Meyers Carroll, of Helena; her sister Virginia, “Ginny,” and brother-in-law Gary Aho, along with their son Jacob Aho, of Texas; and her half-brother Gregory and sister-in-law Sandy Patton of Seattle, along with their children and numerous extended family members.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., March 2 at the First Presbyterian Church of Anaconda, 319 Main St., with a reception following at Jack’s Grille at Old Works.
