But election is on as Galle makes three candidates for two trustee seats
At a special meeting Wednesday night, the Anaconda School District No. 10 school board appointed Derick Budd as a trustee to serve the remaining year of former Trustee Matt Ives' term, who resigned in February.
Five candidates – Budd, Katie Bisch, Katie Gruss, Stacy Caissey and Angela Galle – wrote letters of interest to the school board. Budd, who was unable to attend, was the one who was nominated, seconded and confirmed.
Budd said he was thrilled when he got the call he was selected and will be sworn in next Wednesday.
A case management supervisor at Montana Department of Corrections, Budd said wants to be more involved with the schools.
“I’ve had three older kids go through the school system with varying degrees of success, and I regretted not being more involved,” Budd said. He added that now, he has a younger child who’s close to being school age, and he wants to be more involved for them.
He said he got a "wonderful education from the Anaconda School District," and wants to help make sure the district has the tools and resources they need so that current and future students can have the same experience.
Budd and Galle both put in for the one-year term and filed to be on the ballot for the two three-year terms that are up for election. Budd withdrew his filing for the three-year term after the board chose him for the one-year term, but Galle will be on the ballot along with current Trustee Keriann Orrino and Vice Chair Charlie Farmer.
In a statement to the Anaconda Leader, Galle said of her candidate filing, "After a several year break from serving as a school board trustee for the Anaconda School District I have renewed interest in serving the staff and students of Anaconda. I look forward to the prospective trustee questionnaire so I can get more into the reasons for my renewed interest."
The election, which will be conducted by mail, is set for May 6 with ballots to go out in the middle of April. The Leader will have a candidate questionnaire in an upcoming edition, and a candidate forum is in the planning stages and will be announced as soon as a date has been determined.
