Conrad S. Newton

Conrad Severin Newton passed away on July 25th, 2024, two days before his 92nd birthday, in Townsend MT, where he had been living for the past year.

Conrad was born in Canby MN, on July 27th, 1932, the youngest of seven children, born to Alfred and Ella (Baxter) Newton. He stayed on the family farm, helping his father until he was drafted into the Army in 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He then went back to the farm, until he made a trip to Montana, to visit his sister, Sylvia. He went back home for a short period of time where he worked at a cannery in Marshall MN. After a few months, he moved back to Anaconda, Montana. He worked at various jobs until being hired on by the Montana Power Company where he worked for 27yrs, most of those years as a gas service man. He retired in 1988.

In 1971, he and Fernell Hertzig were married in her home. “Connie” loved flowers and for many years grew gladiolus, until his health forced him to quit. After retirement Connie and Fernell became snow birds. For nine years they spent the winter in Bushnell FL, until Fernell suffered a stroke, which made traveling difficult, so they stayed home.

He also enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and spending time with his three grandchildren. He took pride in keeping a nice yard. His lawn was kept like a carpet, and Lord help any weed that dare stick it’s head up.

After Fernell died in 2004, he kept mostly to himself, going to breakfast a couple times a week with his good friends Charlie and Aaron. He also drove to Dell MT once a week, usually on Sunday, for breakfast. Connie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Tim Ravndal of Townsend, MT; Three grandchildren, Sabrina (Brad Tobel) Ravndal, Helena, MT; Melissa (Russell) Reasoner, Kennewick WA; and Harvey (Aurora) Ravndal, Billings, MT. Four great grandchildren, Elisabet and Madelynn Ravndal, and Timothy and Wayne Reasoner; and sister-in-law Lorraine Newton of Minn. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fernell, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
