Donald Ray “Doc” Smith

Donald Ray “Doc” Smith, 83, passed away April 14, 2026, in Thailand, with his wife Samroi and her children at his side.

He was born December 25, 1942, in Anaconda, Montana, to Ray and Mary Smith. Doc served as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his bravery in protecting wounded soldiers.

He worked as an ironworker and was a member of Ironworkers Local 81 in Butte, Montana, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 239 in Anaconda, Montana.

Doc enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially steelhead fishing on the Clearwater River in north central Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, Ronald, and Bill; and sisters-in-law Rose, Kathy, and Laura.

He is survived by his sons Don (Belinda) Smith and Pete Smith; grandsons Luke (Lexi) Smith and Dallas Smith; five great-grandchildren of northern Idaho; and sister Susan (Mike) Smith of Riverside, California.

Due to distance, he will be laid to rest in Thailand.
