Larry Huff

May 30, 1943 – November 28, 2025

Larry Lee Huff, 82, of Missoula, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, November 28, 2025, in his apartment at The Springs.

Larry was born on May 30, 1943, in Iowa to Reverend Howard and Theda Huff. He spent his early childhood there with his brothers before his family moved to Anaconda, Montana; a place he cherished deeply. Larry often said he was “reborn in the mountains of Montana” and proudly considered himself a native Montanan.

After graduating from Anaconda High School, Larry met and married the love of his life, Rolene Gee Huff. Together, they raised three daughters, Stacie, Cathy, and Denise in Anaconda. Larry worked at the Anaconda Smelter, where he became the final employee before its closure. He spent countless hours in the mountains he loved; hunting and exploring.

Later, Larry and Rolene moved to Missoula, where he worked as a marketing manager for Montana Rail Link until his retirement in 2009. Known affectionately as “Griz” by his coworkers, Larry was admired and loved by many.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and a true Montanan at heart. He spent his falls hunting in the mountains and the rest of the year preparing for the next season, often sharing stories of his adventures (his favorite being the time he took down a boar with a knife). He also enjoyed riding motorcycles during the warm months.

Above all, Larry loved his family, he was a wonderful father, beloved grandfather, and proud great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Theda Huff; his wife, Rolene Huff; his daughter, Cathy Shell; and his grandson, Derek Wandler. He is survived by his brothers, Gary (Lony) and Bob (Cynthia) Huff; daughters, Stacie Huff and Denise (Scott) Blekkenk; grandchildren, Eric Shell, Kristi (Ben) Gager, Justen Day, and Parker (Tyler) Blekkenk-Ribail; and great-grandchildren, Taytum, Shawn, Arayla, Bella, Ashton, Calvin, and Margaret.

A memorial service to honor Larry’s life will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Garden City Funeral Home, with a reception to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Larry’s name.
