Maggie Gill

September 15, 1953 – June 1, 2025

Margaret Ann Gill passed away on June 1st, 2025 due to complications of ongoing health issues.

All her friends called her “Maggie”, and her sister Monica called her “Magoo”. She was born September 15, 1953 in Lewiston Idaho to Leonard and Sara Powell. She grew up in Clarkston, Washington and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1972.

Sara remarried to Raymond Elmer Gill who adopted Maggie. After high school, she lived in California before moving to Bellingham Washington. She moved in with her BEST friends Sue and Clyde. Sue got her first job at Alaskan Silver and Ivory. She made jewelry and played as much as she worked. She thought it was the best job ever. Sue and Clyde made many wonderful lasting friendships.

After that fun time ended Maggie went to Alaska to work on a fish processing vessel. She spent five years doing that, coming back to Bellingham during the breaks. When she left the ship she moved to Montana and worked on painting houses with her friend Kitty in Butte, where she met on the ship. Then she moved to Wise River Montana where she found her forever home. She worked at all the local bars, and decided she wanted to work for herself. She learned how to chink log homes. She hired her friends and family to help her with the painting and staining. She loved her friends, and little sister Monica which she called “Sissy”. She had a wonderful relationship with Randy Bathrick, “Ranman”. She truly loved him so much and they had a lot of fun together. She had a lot of close friends and she would help them anyway she could.

She lived in the Wise River area for 35 plus years. She traveled to Hawaii and Mexico with her Clarkston friends. She loved the rock hounding and loved her crystals that she would find and buy. She was a cat lover, which the valley would call her the “Cat Women” due to all the cats she took in. She loved going to Fairmont Hot Springs with Rita, and going out to many dinners with her. 

Maggie is survived by her little sister Monica Gill, niece Alison Rohaly, Nephew Aaron Otremba. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Anderson, brother Tim Artz. 

Thank you Patti and Jodi for moving her out of Wise River, and thank you Craig and Rita for moving her out of Butte the last time. Special thanks to Dorothy, her hospice nurse that works for Honeybee. Dorothy took care of Maggie, and put up with her up and down of agriness. Dorothy was there for all her needs.

Celebration of life will be at the Dewey Bar in Dewey Montana on June 21 at 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Maggie didn’t want a potluck, she wanted everyone to party and talk about stories. Maggie was loved by many. She will be missed by many!!!
