Michael Bruce Grayson

Michael Bruce Grayson, 63, passed away peacefully, August 8, 2023, from complications of cancer.  He was born on the Wright Patterson Airforce Base, in Ohio, to Priscilla K. McKelvey and Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence E. Grayson. He grew up mostly in Ohio, as well as in Fort Walton Beach Florida. He went to college at Bowling Green State University for his undergraduate studies, and then to George Washington University in Washington DC for law school. He spent his early 20’s working in Yellowstone National Park, and knew he wanted to stay in Montana. He met and fell in love with his wife Marcie while they both worked in Yellowstone.  They married in 1988 and settled in Anaconda MT in 1989, where Mike began his career as an attorney. 

Mike loved the law and he never minded going to work. He was an excellent attorney and cared deeply about his clients. He had several jobs, working first as Deputy County Attorney for Deer Lodge County, then was elected and served two terms as County Attorney.  He was a Public Defender for several years, and for the last 17 years he had a private practice doing all kinds of law. He fought hard for his clients and went to bat for those who could not defend themselves. He counseled people and listened to them and gained the trust of many.  He firmly believed in justice, and always fought hard for what he believed was right.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Grayson, Mother Priscilla Grayson, stepmother Barbara Grayson, niece Mary Grayson, and mother-in-law Nancy Nyte. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Marcie, sons Matt (Suzanna), Chris (Amber), his brothers Andrew (Patti), and Christopher (Laurie), and nieces and nephew Kathryn Grayson Nanz (Jason) and Megan Grayson (John Branflick), and Jonathan Grayson. He is also survived by brothers in law Chris (Lori) Nyte, and Greg (Christa) Nyte, and their children: Andrew (Carlye), Jacqueline, Talisa (Joel), Thomas (Hilary), Taryn (Isaac) as well as great nieces and nephew.  

Mike was our strong rock of a husband and father and will be so missed. He loved Montana and Anaconda. He lived quietly and worked hard for us and the community. He was an Eagle Scout and lived by those values and taught our boys the same. He was always up for camping and scouting activities and shared his love of the outdoors and the skills to maneuver through life that scouts taught so well. He enjoyed his friendships in the Scouts immensely, and he continued on after the boys became Eagle Scouts and moved away.
