Mitchell signs with Edmonds College

Lady Copperhead softball standout to pitch for Tritons
The Edmonds College Tritons have netted themselves quite the hurler, as Lady Copperhead softball standout Ashley Mitchell has signed to pitch for the two-year college in Washington State starting this fall.
Mitchell signed her letter of intent with Edmonds College – located in Edmonds, Washington – at a signing ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the Memorial Gym, accompanied by her coaches, her family and her fellow student-athletes.
And the All-Conference pitcher and current senior at Anaconda Junior-Senior High School is thrilled to have that to look forward to.
"It's exciting, knowing that I can do my high school season and my club season and not worry about recruiting," Mitchell said in an interview Thursday. "It feels like a breath of fresh air almost."
Mitchell had visited the campus in September, taking a tour of the facilities and even was able to get in a bit of practice time.
"I did a practice with them, did weights with them, pitched in the bullpen an hour or so. The next day I did another practice and did a lunch with them," Mitchell said.
And she was sold.
"I definitely wanted to go out of state rather than in-state – just personally it's what I'd prefer," she said. "We travel a lot out there for travel ball with the Avalanche and I always love going in that direction."
The Tritons also playing "fall ball" was another selling point, as was the coach, Daryl Stevens.
"He's really good at communication. Anytime we have a tournament, he's always looking forward to talking and hearing about the games," she said.
As for what she plans to study, Mitchell said she wants to be a teacher, but isn't completely decided yet.
"I may just go to get my generals," she said.
Yet before getting too far ahead, there's still her senior season with the Lady Copperheads to look forward to. Mitchell made First-Team All-Conference in 2022 when Anaconda made it to the final game at divisionals, yet she has a good feeling about this year, with the possibility of capping off her high school career with a trip to the state tournament.
"We were close last year – we were just one game short," she said. "I know a couple teams lost some of their good senior players, and this year we have some eighth graders ... with more girls we have a good opportunity to go to state."
