Ronald “Rocky” Smith
Ronald “Rocky” Smith passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Denver, Colorado, just four days before their 61st birthday. After a courageous battle with cancer, his body succumbed to the illness far too soon.
Born on November 25, 1963, Rocky grew up in Opportunity, Montana, where he formed lasting friendships that endured throughout his life. He earned an Engineering Degree from MT Tech and later completed an MBA at the U of M. His professional journey concluded as Plant Manager at the General Pacific wallboard plant near Lovell, Wyoming.
Rocky was deeply devoted to his children, Jori and Zachary, and granddaughter Emery. He traveled frequently to support school events and created cherished memories through snowmobiling and white-water rafting adventures. In the months before his diagnosis, Rocky met LeAnna, whom he described as a “wonderful partner with incredible compatibility.” Together, they faced the challenges of illness with unwavering faith and love.
Rocky is preceded in death by his parents Ron Smith and Kathy Windorski; grandfathers Ray Smith and Larry McLane; grandmothers Mary Smith and Mae McLane; and uncles Bob (Rose) Smith and Billy Smith.
Rocky survived by his loving wife LeAnna Smith; son Zachary Smith; granddaughter Emery Smith; daughter Jori (John) Pafford all of Gillette, WY; son Michael Thomas of Butte, MT; brothers Matt (Kathy) Smith of Opportunity, MT, and Mike Smith (Michelle Lewis) of Butte, MT; and sister Shery Davis of Texas.
A celebration of Rocky’s life will be held on July 5, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Washoe Park Pavilion. Lunch will be provided, and muscle cars are welcome in Rocky’s honor.
