Shirley Budd May 21, 1936 - May12, 2024
Shirley Mangan was born into a large Irish Catholic family on May 21, 1936 to Bridget and Norbert Mangan. She was the firstborn of 28 cousins. She grabbed her heavenly wings on May 12 while the Northern lights showed their brilliance.
This spunky, Irish gal outlived two husbands Ray Black and Joe Budd, two brothers Tom and Jim and a sister-in-law Rosa Frey, and her very special, lifelong friend Georgia Eamon.
She leaves behind many who will miss her: Brian Black and children Raymond and Jimmy Black. Greg and Melanie Budd and children Derek (Anne), and Brad. Debbie Budd (Dale Krebs) and children DJ (Jessica), Cory, Johana (AJ) and Dino, Cindy Budd Dodge(Gary), numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, from the Beatty, Rustead, Budd and Mangan clans, and many friends and neighbors.
She was especially close to her sister Peggy Mangan and her crew including Joan Rogers and Karl Frey.
She was proud of her education from the Anaconda Catholic schools and especially for her registered nursing degree from Carol College. With this degree she was able to devote herself to a career of surgical and home health.
Shirley and Ray Black owned and operated Black’s Jewelry. She loved co-managing and doing the accounting for the store until Ray’s death.
In addition to her career path, Shirley was very active and loved socializing. She celebrated her heritage as a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Her passions included, Irish dancing and being an original member of the Irish Washerwomen Brigade. She was quite the outdoors woman, hiking, backpacking, fishing and skiing. She and Joe Budd enjoyed camping and socializing with friends at Georgetown Lake for many years.
She enjoyed the occasional toddy and was known to say she’d “have one for each leg”.
Many people deserve special thank yous for all of the help and companionship they have offered Shirley over the years, including Cindy Reid PA for all of her compassionate care. Thanks also to the incredible staff at New Horizons, the staff at Anaconda Community Hospital, the Pintlar Hospice team, Sis Carol Davison, Lenore Manning, Leila Sawyer, Pam Swanson, Vickey Coughlin, Steve and Patty Stanberrry, Chuck and Connie Freeze who all helped to make her life special.
Dance on sweet Shirley!
A celebration of her life will be held this summer.
