Urban Wildlife Task Force to meet Monday, with one fewer member

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Urban Wildlife Task Force will be back in session on Monday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Metcalf Memorial Senior Citizens Center as they'll meet to begin the process of writing an urban deer plan for ADLC. 

And when they do, they'll meet with one fewer member on the board as the ADLC Commission voted to remove George Kortum from the task force, with Commission Chair Mike Beausoleil saying that he had not attended any meetings so far. 

"According to the rules, if you miss more than three meetings in a row, you're out," Beausoleil said. 

The motion passed unanimously. As a result, there will be one position on the task force open – a resident-at-large position so not limited to any particular Commission district – so anyone interested in serving on the task force may submit at letter of interest to the ADLC Commission either by mail or in person to the Chief Executive's Office at 800 Main St., or by emailing szacher@adlc.us. The Commission will be taking letters of interest throughout the month of March with the opening coming up for discussion at the April 8 work session with an expected vote at the April 15 business session. 

Now the task force will likely begin the process of writing an urban deer management plan after the Commission indicated its preference to do so at their Feb. 18 meeting. And at their Feb. 25 meeting, Commissioner Ed Beaudette sought to amend the work session agenda "to have us move forward so we can make a decision," but the motion failed for lack of a second. 

Beaudette then asked that it be on for the next work session, which will be on Tuesday, March 11, the day after the task force meets.
