Walt Immonen

Walt Immonen passed away Saturday, August 10, 2023 in Anaconda.  He was born on March 12, 1940 in Butte, Montana to Taimi and Wilho Immonen.  Raise in Walkerville, Walt fondly reminisced about his childhood adventures on the hill.  He was an accomplished speed skater and weightlifter during his youth.

After high school, Walt answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force.  While stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska, he met and married Nancy Comer, with whom he started a family.

Walt later returned to Anaconda, where he became an electrician.  He took great pride in the many projects he worked on, often pointing them out to friends and family.  In retirement, Walt enjoyed playing Pinochle with his friends Buster, Bing and Henry, a tradition that lasted over 15 years.

In his later years, Walt met the loved of his life, Judy Powers.  They shared 24 beautiful years together, filled with camping trips, four-wheeling adventures and countless games of cribbage.  Walt’s dedication to his friends and family, along with his strength and playful spirit will be deeply missed in Anaconda and within the local cribbage community where he was a top player in the Grassroots Cribbage Club.  

One of Walt’s cherished routines was his Tuesday morning breakfast with his brother-in-law, Rich and his good friend Buster.  

Walt is survived by his beloved Judy; his children, Jeanie, Frank and Alan (Angela); his step-children, Lori (Troy) and Stacy; his grandchildren, Tia, Billy, Joey, Tiffany, Valerie and Nick; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Eileen (Norm), his niece Teri, nephew Mike, and many dear friends.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Taimi and Wilho, his daughter-in-law, Linda and his nephew, Patrick.  

Walt’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.  

His celebration of life will be conducted Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 PM at the Anaconda Elks.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Make-A-Dream.  Express condolences at www.wayrynen-richards.com.
