Raul Roberto Montez Sr.

Raul Roberto Montez Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on February 5, 2026, at the Southwestern Montana Veterans Home in Butte, Montana. Raul was born on February 10, 1931, in Van Nuys, California, to Alejandro Montez and Ramona Cano, both of whom preceded him in death.

Raul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. A true military man at heart, he carried his service with pride throughout his life and deeply respected those who wore the uniform.

Raul was a man of strong faith who loved to talk about the Lord and the importance of trusting God. He believed deeply in family, loyalty, and living life with heart. Known for his humor, charm, and playful personality, Raul never missed a chance to make others laugh. He was a self-proclaimed ladies’ man, a legendary flirt, and always quick with a wink and a joke. His larger-than-life spirit filled every room he entered.

Raul enjoyed traveling, fishing, spending time with family, and savoring life’s simple pleasures. More than anything, he cherished moments with those he loved and the connections he built along the way.

Raul was preceded in death by his son, Raul Roberto Montez Jr. (“Punky”), and his grandson, Montana Montez.

He is survived by his daughter, Ramona Montez-Burns; son-in-law, Eric Burns; sister, Rosa Telles; grandchildren Carlos Monroy, David Flores, Kassandra Flores, Mark Montez-Gonzalo, and Kayla Montez-Gonzalo; great-grandchildren Fallon Monroy, David-Troy Monroy, Emerson Flores, and Matias Flores; and other loved ones including his stepson, Francisco Tristan, and additional grandchildren Rosa Yenne, and Anna Morales, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Raul’s family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones.

A Military Honors Ceremony will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Western Montana Veterans Cemetery, 1911 Tower St, Missoula, MT 59804. Memorial’s in honor of Raul are suggested.
