James M. Devich

James Marcus Devich passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026 at his home in Anaconda with his family at his side.  He was born Tuesday, December 15, 1942 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Michael L. and Martha (Wanke) Devich.  James was raised in Anaconda and attended Anaconda High School where he excelled at basketball.  He attended some college before joining the United States Army.  Following his honorable discharge James returned to Anaconda where he worked as a clerk at the court house then at the smelter until it shut down.  James went to work at The Montana State Prison as a correctional officer until his retirement, enjoyed golfing and bowling and was flattered to have won several Elvis impersonator contests. Jim also drove the DAV van, shuttling veterans to and from medical appointments.

He married his wife Toni in Butte on December 27, 1975 and she survives.  Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Steffen and Roshini Devich and his granddaughters Isabella and Gabriella of Shalimar, Florida, his daughter, Susan Devich of Georgetown, Kentucky, brother, Jerry Devich of Denver, Colorado, sister, Marla Willis of Great Falls, Montana, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Chris and John Hardesty of Butte as well as several nieces and nephews.  

Cremation has taken place in Butte.  Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. in Holy Family Catholic Church with a reception to follow at the Midway Bar.   

Jim’s family extends a special and sincere thank you to Trek Hospice for all the kind and compassionate car given during his illness and to the Veteran’s Administration for the health care provided to Jim.
