John Michael Chor, age 80, passed away on December 12, 2023.

John was born in Anaconda, MT to Mary (Chumrau) Chor and John Joseph Chor. He resided in Philipsburg with his wife, Marlene, of 56 years.

John was an Anaconda Central High School graduate as well as a Western Montana College graduate where he excelled in academics and sports. After graduation, he served in the Montana National Guard. He began his career as a teacher of special education, business education and drivers education at the Anaconda High School. In addition to teaching, John enjoyed coaching AHS boys basketball. He managed Granite Amusement of SW Montana until his retirement and was the owner of the Last Chance Casino and Restaurant in Helena.

He was an award-winning trap shooter and lover of animals. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and boating, skiing, and watching sports. In the last 17 years of his life, he especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Giana. He loved watching her play viola and play basketball and volleyball. He hated to miss a game of hers. She will miss him the most.

He was a much respected man and will be remembered for his class, work ethic, and quick wit.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; son, John (Sue) Chor of Anaconda, granddaughter Giana Chor of Anaconda, grandson Dr. Gregory Smith (Andrea) of Missoula, granddaughter Kimberly (Willard) Barlow, and three great-granddaughters, Adrielle and Raelia Smith and Livea Barlow. He is survived also by sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Juliann Stibbs.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Longfellow Funeral Home in Anaconda at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, followed by a luncheon at the Anaconda Club Moderne.

We miss you already, Pazee!
