Suspect in Owl Bar mass shooting is in custody

Exactly a week after four people were fatally shot inside the Owl Bar in Anaconda on Friday, Aug. 1, the suspected shooter has been taken into custody, according to the Montana Department of Justice.
“This afternoon at approximately 2 p.m., authorities apprehended and placed under arrest Michael Paul Brown near the search area in Anaconda,” Director of External Affairs Emilee Cantrell said in an email. “He is now in custody of Anaconda-Deer Lodge County authorities.”
Brown, 45, was apprehended on a property adjacent to Montana Highway 1 west of Anaconda.
The manhunt has been in full force since Friday after Brown fled the scene in a white Ford F-150 to the area of Stumptown Road.
Law enforcement officers from all over the state and country, including Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Police Department, Montana Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals Service, along with almost three dozen other law enforcement agencies, participated in the search, with Gov. Greg Gianforte authorizing emergency funds for the search.
The four people killed in the mass shooting incident were 64-year-old Nancy Lauretta Kelley; 59-year-old Daniel Edwin Baillie; 70-year-old David Allen Leach; and 74-year-old Tony Wayne Palm.
